If there has to be sort of continuity, have Craig continually chase after Quantum, like HYDRA from MCU. The former would fuck up enough somewhere that major powers would take them down while the latter would easily thrive. Shit on Quantum of Solace all you want, but Spectre as a criminal organization is just such an outdated concept in today's world (it was already dated in the 60s) while Quantum as a cabal of multinational business interests working for mutual gain is just more believable. Maybe if Quantum and Skyfall had tied in some way to a mysterious figure running things and the Spectre organization was not a thing, it could have worked. I was in an utter disbelief as to how any producer in their right mind thought that was a good idea. The reveal of reconning in the organization and Blofeld to the previous plots is the dumbest plot twist I have ever seen in any movie franchise next to Rey Palpatine in TROS. The villain lair escape feels as if I can write it better, unironically. It probably has the single worst third act out of the entire series. Die Another Day and Moonraker had 'so bad it's good' quality, but watching Spectre just depressed the hell out of me. Speaking of Spectre, Spectre fundamentally rubbed me in the way any other bad Bond flick has not. It has amazing aspects in it, like an aging Bond, M as a bond girl, Moneypenny, and Silva pretty much save the film. I do not understand Sam Mandes's obsession with Bond's past and legacy, and it has gotten far worse with Spectre. Much of the plot is boring, especially every screentime devoted to the mansion is a slog to sit through. Soundtracks except for the opening song sound like a generic superhero film score. While they are gorgeous to look at, but they all lack the bombastic energy shown by Campbell's films. Action set-pieces except for the opening and the sniper fight are unexciting. You can make gritty, personal Bond films while retaining the core charm of the series, as shown in Casino Royale (which might be the best spy action film ever made, but I have to think about it more), On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and License to Kill, but Skyfall was not it.īond in Skyfall is bland and resembles nothing of his Casino Royale counterpart in his personality, completely lacking in humor and wits. I recognize Skyfall as a good film, but it lacks a lot of enjoyment I would like to see from Bond films. The only two great Bond films that got made in the last thirty years were directed by Martin Campbell.
